MTI WEBCAST: Making AI a Force in Your Company

Posted By: Tom Morrison Community,

MTI is excited to announce that AI is an important topic that will be added to its series of quarterly webcasts. The webcast series is focused on keeping your team ahead of change in Economic Forecasts, Technical Standards, Leadership Development and now AI.

Artificial Intelligence is no longer something companies can put on the “someday” list. It is already changing how businesses analyze information, communicate, solve problems, automate tasks, train employees, and make decisions.

For heat treaters, the question is quickly shifting from “Should we use AI?” to “How do we use AI effectively and responsibly?”

That will be the focus of MTI’s upcoming webcast, Navigating AI to be a Force for Your Business, on Wednesday, September 9, from 2:30–3:30 PM ET. MTI CEO Tom Morrison will sit down with Jay Owen for a practical conversation about implementing AI and the key elements of MTI’s new Responsible AI Playbook.

AI Can Be a Force…If You Have a Plan

The potential of AI is enormous. It can help employees work faster, analyze complex information, improve communication, brainstorm solutions, summarize documents, develop procedures, assist with training, and eliminate hours of repetitive work.

But with that opportunity comes risk.

What happens when an employee enters confidential customer information into a public AI platform? Who verifies that an AI-generated answer is accurate? What information should never be shared with an AI system? When should a human always remain part of the decision-making process?

These are no longer hypothetical questions.

Every company needs to begin establishing clear expectations and guardrails for how AI will be used inside the organization.

That is why MTI’s AI Task Force developed its Responsible AI Playbook, to give Members a practical framework for taking advantage of AI while protecting their companies, employees, and customers.

What You'll Learn on September 9

During the webcast, Tom and Jay will unpack practical principles companies should consider as AI becomes more integrated into daily operations.

The discussion will include how heat treat plants can implement AI, protect sensitive company, employee, and customer information, establish practical employee guardrails, maintain human oversight and accountability, evaluate AI-generated information for accuracy and risk, and create a culture that encourages innovation without sacrificing responsibility.

One of the most important messages will be simple:

Don't be afraid of AI, but don't implement it without a strategy.

Your Employees May Already Be Using AI

One reason this conversation is so important is that AI adoption isn't necessarily waiting for management to create a formal plan.

Employees have access to powerful AI tools on their phones and computers. They may already be using them to draft emails, research problems, analyze documents, create presentations, develop procedures, or answer technical questions.  That makes establishing an AI policy and educating employees about responsible use increasingly important.

The companies that succeed with AI won't simply be the companies with access to the best technology. They will be the companies that teach their people how to use the technology wisely.

Don't Wait Until AI Forces You to Change

AI is going to create tremendous opportunities throughout manufacturing and the heat treating industry. Companies that begin learning, experimenting, and establishing responsible practices today will be better positioned to capture those opportunities tomorrow.

The goal isn't to replace people.

The goal is to expand capacity and growth by giving good people better tools that allow them to become more productive, more informed, and more effective.
