Stay Tuned In: MTI’s Next ITR Economic Forecast Webcast is August 28
In today’s business environment, one of the biggest mistakes a leader can make is waiting until an economic shift shows up in their sales numbers before reacting.
By then, the shift has already happened.
That is why MTI’s Quarterly Economic Forecast Webcast with ITR Economics has become such an important resource for Members. On August 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET, ITR Economics will provide its latest look at where the economy is headed and, more importantly, what the changing economic trends could mean for the heat treating industry.
The goal is simple: replace uncertainty with clarity.
Don’t Manage Your Business Through the Rearview Mirror
Most of the numbers companies watch every day are telling them what has already happened…last month’s sales, current backlog, overtime hours, new RFQs or customer activity. Those numbers matter. But if you want to prepare for what is coming next, you need to be watching the leading indicators.
ITR Economics uses leading indicator evidence, data analysis, business cycle theory and current events as core elements of its forecasting methodology. That approach is designed to help business leaders recognize economic changes before those changes fully reach their companies.
For heat treaters, that foresight can influence some of the biggest decisions you make:
- Do we need to add or reduce capacity?
- Is it time to hire?
- Should we accelerate a capital investment?
- Which customer markets offer the greatest opportunities?
- Where should our sales team be focusing?
- What cost pressures should we be preparing for?
- Should we be more aggressive…or more cautious?
Those decisions become much easier when you have a clearer picture of what may be coming 6, 12, 24, and even 36 months down the road.
The Forecast Is Constantly Changing
This is also why attending every quarter matters.
The economy is not static. Interest rates change. Inflation changes. Consumer behavior shifts. Global events affect energy and supply chains. New orders rise and fall. Different industry sectors accelerate and decelerate at different times.
The May MTI/ITR forecast pointed toward continued growth through 2026, moderation in 2027 and renewed growth in 2028. It also identified U.S. Industrial Production and U.S. Nondefense Capital Goods New Orders, excluding aircraft, as important indicators for heat treaters to watch.
The question for August is: What has changed?
Have the leading indicators strengthened? Have they weakened? Are the timing and magnitude of the forecast changing? Which markets are gaining momentum, and which are beginning to slow?
That is why economic forecasting should never be something you look at once a year and put on a shelf. Staying tuned into the forecast allows your strategy to evolve as the data evolves.
Turn Economic Intelligence Into a Management Tool
MTI encourages Members to make this webcast more than something the owner or president watches alone…invite your management team also.
Bring together your leaders from sales, operations, finance, HR and production, and watch the webcast together. Then spend 20 minutes discussing three simple questions:
- What did we learn?
- Where do we see opportunities or risks for our company?
- What should we be doing differently based on what we just heard?
That conversation can turn an economic forecast into an actionable business strategy.
MTI invests more than $50,000 annually in economic forecasting resources because we believe Members need more than headlines and opinions. They need forward-looking intelligence that can help them make better decisions.
The companies that navigate economic cycles best aren't necessarily the ones that can predict every twist and turn. They are the ones that stay tuned in, recognize changes early and adjust before everyone else sees them coming.
Make sure you and your management team join MTI and ITR Economics on August 28 at 2:00 p.m. ET for the next Quarterly Economic Forecast Webcast.
The future will always contain uncertainty. The advantage comes from seeing it as clearly…and as early…as possible.
