As a business owner, you know all too well that further regulation by government agencies continue to cost small business money that could be used to create jobs or opportunity in the marketplace.  It is important you have an opportunity to prepare for compliance for any major changes coming your way.

In the month of November, the Administration released its updated Regulatory Agenda forecasting a timetable for upcoming regulations.  Below are some highlights in the labor and OSHA space for you to be mindful of as we head into 2016.  As you can see, it will be the first half of 2016 as the Administration winds down and rules will need to be completed.

In an interesting twist of events, this proposed rule has been now placed on the “long term agenda,” but we have not heard why.  We are looking into this and will provide more information once we know.

Department of Labor

  • Overtime Regulation - Final Rule projected for July 2016
  • Persuader Rule - Previously on the long-term agenda, but now Final Rule projected for March 2016
  • Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors - Proposed Rule projected for February 2016; Final Rule projected for September 2016

OSHA

  • Silica - Final Rule projected for February 2016
  • Injury and Illness Electronic Recordkeeping - Final Rule projected for March 2016
  • Combustible Dust - a Small Business Review panel will be convened in August 2016.

As any of these rules are finalized, MTI will keep members up to speed as to timing and details of compliance.  MTI works in partnership with NAM and the Council of Manufacturing Associations representing over 120,000 companies to keep you advised of any changes coming in the future.

As we enter into the last 12 months of the 2016 election cycle, make sure to pass the link to NAM’s Election Center on to all your employees to help them register to vote, get informed on key manufacturing issues, and view their congress person’s voting record.  CLICK HERE to view the NAM Election Center.
