Weather:  Bermuda weather in April begins to warm up and may be cooler compared to the summer months. The air temperature varies between a high of 71 degrees Fahrenheit on average, to a low of 63 degrees in the evening. Sun sets approximately at 8:00 pm.

All events are resort casual, excluding the final night dinner. Final night is Bermuda themed; shorts and jackets for men, (CLICK HERE) and tropical dress attire for women.  SPECIAL NOTE:  Themed dress for final night is optional.  Please feel free to wear business/resort casual attire.  Jackets not required.

Thursday, April 6

6:30 pm - 9:30 pm: MTI Welcome Reception, Dinner and Comedy Theater

Enjoy Bermuda's signature cuisine and drinks as you connect with members from all across North America.  MTI's opening night event will feature nationally known comedian, Mike Rivera,  kicking-off this year's National Spring Meeting. With nearly three decades on stage, Mike Rivera has established himself as a premier comedy attraction and consistent crowd-pleaser from coast to coast. Class is in session when this longtime teacher takes the stage, with his trademark “teachable moments”, keeping the audience laughing night after night.

Friday, April 7

8:00 am - 11:30 am:  General Session

SESSION 1:  Alex Chausovsky from ITR Economics: MTI Sales & Industry Sector Forecasts for 2017 and 2018

Alex is the Chief Economist overseeing MTI's quarterly sales forecasting program.  He will present heat treat sales forecasts for 2017 and 2018, as well as forecasts for key industries that MTI members service, including:  aerospace, mining, automotive, medical, and electronics.

SESSION 2:  Chad Sorenson from Adaptive HR Services: Workplace Violence Prevention and Drug-Free Workplace with Legalized Marijuana.

Chad is one of HR's leading professionals serving as President of the Northeast Florida Society of Human Resource Managers.  He is going to provide the keys to designing a workplace violence prevention policy, as well as how to deal with a drug-free workplace in an environment when marijuana is being legalized in many states.

9:00 am - 10:30 am:  Spouse/Guest Breakfast: This event is not intended for members. Invitations and location will be in your welcome packets addressed to your spouse/guests.

11:30 am - Noon:  State of the Institute Update by MTI President, Tim Levy from Industrial Steel Treating

1:00 pm - 5:00 pm:  MTI Educational Foundation Fundraiser:  The Amazing Race Bermuda Island

In this 4-hour action packed event, members who register to participate will be put in teams of 6 with their own personal taxi with driver. Teams will embark on a sightseeing adventure throughout Bermuda completing assigned challenges.  The team who completes the most challenges will win the grand prize to be awarded at the final night dinner. CLICK HERE to see race details.  Cost for this event is $145 per person, with all proceeds going directly to the MTI Educational Foundation.  The MTI Foundation is a 501c3 charitable organization, making your contribution 100% tax deductible. 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm:  (Optional) The Mix Happy Hour Reception - Cocktails and Light Hors d'oeuvres.  Followed by a free night to enjoy local cuisine and explore the culture of Bermuda.

 

Saturday, April 8

8:00 am - 11:30 am:  General Session

SESSION 1:  Aric Newhouse, Senior VP of Policy & Government Affairs of NAM: Impact of 2016 Elections on Manufacturing 

Aric will provide his insights on the election of the new President, Donald Trump and the Republican led Congress as to what it means for manufacturers in North America.

SESSION 2:  Tim Roberts NASA Engineer: Emerging Technology that will Reshape How Manufacturing is Performed and its Impact on Heat Treating.

Tim Roberts is no stranger to MTI.  Tim spoke at the MTI in the Fall of 2009.  Tim will share insights that he is seeing in emerging technology that is going to create opportunity in heat treating, as well as eliminate the need for heat treating in certain processes.  This is a must see session.

SESSION 3:  Featured Keynote - Dan Heath, Co-Author of the Book SWITCH

Dan Heath's session will be based on his book "Switch, How to Change Things When Change is Hard." The session will dig into why change is so difficult and frightening.  How do you create change when you have few resources and no title or authority to back you up? He will present one of the greatest challenges of our personal and professional lives; how to change things when change is hard. Dan Heath is a Senior Fellow at Duke University’s CASE center, which supports social entrepreneurs. At CASE he founded the Change Academy, a program designed to boost the impact of social sector leaders. Amazon.com editors named Switch one of the Best Nonfiction Books of the Year, and it spent 47 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list. 

6:30 pm - 11:00 pm:  Bermuda Themed Dinner

With attendees decked out in their best Bermuda attire you will enjoy dinner and drinks as you unwind with members sharing your experiences and memories of this year's Spring Meeting.
