The Metal Treating Institute’s Fall Meeting, hosted October 3-5 in San Antonio, TX really hit the mark for all those in attendance. Many stated it was great to experience content so relevant to today’s challenges and opportunities, and the energy of the attendees was at an all-time high.

145 people attended, experiencing three days of high-level networking and content, focused on key issues impacting heat treaters and suppliers. The sessions included a set of table discussions where members weighed in on four topics suggested by those in attendance.

During the three days, MTI Members engaged in two high-energy networking dinners and education sessions. This allowed many first-timers and attendees the opportunity to meet key executives and CEOs; connecting on common challenges and solutions.

During the general sessions, Members heard from experts on the key data behind the labor drought, keys to automating your plant as a solution to the labor drought, and how to break the 2-week curse. Additionally, there was much conversation about ever increasing customer requirements, how to keep your team encouraged and mentally focused during this challenging time, and what steps should be taken to transfer knowledge from a 30-year industry veteran to a 2-year rookie.

To cap off the meeting, MTI’s final night dinner hosted the 2022 YES Management Training Program’s graduation and MTI’s Service and Leadership Awards. There were 22 heat treating executives that graduated this year’s YES program, and 8 companies/individuals were recognized for their outstanding service to the industry and MTI.

During dinner, MTI Educational Foundation Chair, Buster Crossley, announced that the Foundation raised $45,000 from the Bronze Sculpture raffle give-a-way. The proceeds from the fundraiser will go to benefit the MTI Foundation Scholarships.

At the conclusion of the dinner, Jim Oakes from Super Systems passed the gavel to the 2022 President, Don Hendry from Pinson Valley Heat Treating in Pinson, AL.
