The Metal Treating Institute’s Fall Meeting, hosted October 3-5 in Vancouver, Canada really hit the mark with all those in attendance.  Many stated it was one of the best meetings they have ever attended.  That says a lot, given MTI national meetings traditionally rate very high among attendees.

Over 190 people attended from 19 states and Canada, experiencing three days of high-level networking and content, focused on key issues impacting heat treaters and suppliers.

During the three days, MTI members engaged in two high-energy networking dinners.  This allowed many first timers and attendees the opportunity to meet key executives and CEOs; connecting on common challenges and solutions.

During the general sessions, members heard from experts on creating an effective cybersecurity strategy, and on management skills needed to retain workers.  With the hacking of data being a big issue for any company, and employees “leaving their boss, not their company”, members were all ears during these sessions.

MTI members Jim Oakes from Super Systems, and Heather Falcone from Thermal-Vac Technologies, moderated a very active open forum discussion on:

  • Solutions to building your cybersecurity strategy
  • The overwhelming document requirements by customers
  • How to minimize downtime through preventative and predictive maintenance

To cap off the meeting, MTI’s final night dinner hosted the 2019 YES Management Training Program’s graduation and MTI’s Service and Leadership Awards. There were 33 heat treating executives that graduated this year’s YES program, and 8 companies/individuals were recognized for their outstanding service to the industry and MTI.

If you have not attended an MTI national meeting, you are truly missing out on a great opportunity to gain a fresh perspective on your business and reenergize your passion for your industry through the connections made at the meetings.

Mark your calendar for MTI’s Spring Meeting at The Lodge Resort in Sonoma, California on April 27-29, 2020.  Details will be released in December 2019.
