BRIGHT WORLD OF METALS CONFIRMS LEADING INTERNATIONAL POSITION

The recent staging of the Bright World of Metals, consisting of the four concurrently held trade fairs GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS & NEWCAST, confirmed its position at the world’s most important international platform for the metallurgy and casting sectors. Numerous investments, spontaneous business deals, and lively discussions characterized the dynamic atmosphere in the twelve halls of the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany. GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS & NEWCAST achieved good results both on the exhibitor and visitor side – most importantly, they were able to once again increase their internationality compared to previous events: 70% of the exhibitors were from outside Germany (2015: 65%) and 66% of the visitors came from countries other than Germany (2015: 62%).

Factors for success: High internationality and decision-making authority

“With around 2,360 exhibitors from all over the world, GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS & NEWCAST cover almost the entire international market. Global players, small, innovative newcomers and providers of niche technology alike are all represented here”, said Friedrich-Georg Kehrer, Global Portfolio Director for Metals and Flow Technologies at Messe Düsseldorf GmbH. About 72,500 visitors from 118 countries attended the Bright World of Metals. The demand for European metallurgy and casting technology is particularly strong overseas, especially in Asia. This was also reflected in the international country ranking: India and China were the leading nations, followed by Italy, Turkey, Japan, France and Russia. "This high degree of internationality of the exhibitors and visitors is a crucial factor for the success of the Bright World of Metals and makes the trade fair quartet so unique. GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS & NEWCAST are an absolute must for metal and foundry professionals from all over the world," added Friedrich Kehrer.

This was confirmed by Dipl.-Ing. Heinz Nelissen, President of GIFA & NEWCAST and CEO of Vesuvius GmbH FOSECO Foundry Division: “Immediately after the start of the trade fair, any remaining uncertainty caused by the economic downturn was quickly dispelled, and the rush of trade visitors was enormous. The large number of high-quality trade visitors from a very international environment were interested in the exhibitors' innovations. Above all, digitalization, automation, additive manufacturing and resource efficiency were the focal points of the talks. We undoubtedly proved that GIFA has reinforced its status as a global leader.”

The second important factor for the success of the trade fairs is the quality of the visitors: Over two-thirds are in upper and middle management positions with investment decision authority. “The atmosphere is excellent. The Bright World of Metals provides strong impetus for investment decisions - exactly what our industry needs,” explained Dr.-Ing. Joachim G. Wünning, President of THERMPROCESS and CEO of WS Wärmeprozesstechnik GmbH.

The trade fair quartet: Drivers of mega trends

Once again, the metallurgy trade fair quartet has proven itself to be a driver of trends and innovations. In particular, additive manufacturing and industry 4.0 were a common theme throughout the exhibition halls and met with great interest from trade visitors. The topics of energy efficiency and resources conservation also played an important role at the events, which was evident in the ecoMetals Trails. “This year's METEC is a clear statement and signal for the future of metallurgy and steel production. The exhibitors presented solution concepts that primarily reflect the industry's future highlights: ecoMetals, additive manufacturing, sustainability and digitization. Now is the time to take this spirit and implement it for a successful future. I am looking forward to the results we will see at METEC 2023,” said Burkhard Dahmen, President of METEC and Chairman of the Managing Board for the SMS Group.

The next staging of the Bright World of Metals will be held in June 2023 in Düsseldorf, Germany. Exact dates will be published at a later date.
