MTI Means Big Dollars to Your Bottom Line

When it comes to your membership with the Metal Treating Institute, there are 4 key elements that drive big dollars to your bottom line.  These dollars far exceed the dues you pay to MTI each year.  These 4 key elements to the success of your business, drives a value that you can’t get any place else in the industry without spending significant money.

Protecting the Way You Do Business

Statement of Limited Liability:  This key industry document is only available for MTI member use.  It is a federally filed, copyrighted document, that helps protect a commercial heat treater’s liability with any heat treat project up to 2 times the amount charged for the heat treat work.  This document is used by most all MTI members, and is a part of their PO’s, invoices, work orders, and quotes.  This document alone has saved members millions of dollars in lawsuits and helped keep customers over the years.

Member Involvement on Industry Committees:  MTI has dozens of members who sit on committee and task force groups with AMEC, CQI-9, Nadcap, ASTM, and other affiliated groups who write the technical specifications that you have to live by.  MTI helps to coordinate their efforts to ensure that your voice is heard loud and clear in the revision and writing of technical specifications.

Sales Trends and Forecasting

In today’s business climate, it is not good enough to just compare your sales performance to the previous year in your company.  It is critical that you are comparing your plant sales vs. other plant sales in your local region and nationally.  It is also important you are forecasting your future sales with industry data, not just your data.  MTI saves every member $20,000+ through their monthly sales trend and forecasting program.   MTI has designed its own third party online sales program for members to input their monthly sales figure and download informative trend reports monthly.  Each quarter, the real data that is accumulated in the system is used by ITR Economics to forecast overall heat treat sales for the next 3 years.  Members receive this report every quarter.  When you are in an industry where energy, labor, and equipment can run in the millions, it is critical that your sales forecasting is highly accurate.  ITR has a 94.6% accuracy rating in predicting the ups and downs in the economy the last 60 years.   That accuracy provides an incredible value to your company.

Wage and Benefit Survey Report

Labor is, without a doubt, the #1 expense on any heat treater’s income statement.  Knowing what to pay your line personnel, as well as your key management, plays a huge role in employee recruitment, retention, as well as your profits.   Not knowing the industry data for pay rates for every key element of your operation can make it hard to recruit, retain employees, and can drain profits.  MTI’s annual Wage and Benefit Survey helps heat treat owners make key decisions in managing the payroll, labor rates, and the benefits that they provide to employees.  Each June, MTI opens up the data submission process for the annual wage and benefit survey, with results send to participating members in late September.  This report helps members in their annual employee reviews, and in giving potential raises each year as well.  Don’t miss this informative survey.

Technical Training and Leadership Development

Studies have proven that having an active training and leadership development program in your company does the following:

INCREASES:

  • Employee Morale
  • Employee’s ability to make good decisions (no micro managing)
  • Quality of Work
  • Team Performance
  • Capacity to Embrace Change and Technology

DECREASES:

  • Error Rates
  • Time Per Task

As these items increase and decrease, your company experiences higher profits and productivity through operating at maximum efficiency.

MTI’s Online Academy for Heat Treaters and YES Management Training Program, provides a series of technical and managerial certificates that your employees can earn to build a more knowledgeable and high performing team within your organization.  We have heard from many members that one of the most impressive places captives look at, is their wall of recognition of Heat Treat Specialists certificates and YES Management Program graduates.  That wall displays the plants commitment to excellence in serving them as a customer.  You will not find a better technical or managerial training combination anywhere in the industry.

An additional benefit that is always present is the power of networking with MTI.  Through MTI’s set of online forums, or any of MTI’s 6 meetings, you can immediately connect with over 1,000 heat treat professionals on topics like safety, quality, technical specifications, production, or operations.   Whether you connect with members online, or you attend one of MTI’s 6 meetings each year, that connection saves you valuable time in finding the right answer quickly for your daily operational issues.

To maximize your value of MTI, we encourage you to make sure that you are engaged in each of these 4 crucial areas of your business.   If you have any questions on getting involved with them, contact the MTI office at 904-249-0448 or info@heattreat.net.
