Dress Code: The theme of the Spring Meeting will be a “Resort Island Theme.” The opening and middle nights are resort casual. Hawaiian shirts and sundresses are appropriate. The final night is evening casual with sport coats appropriate for the men and cocktail dress for the women. All general sessions during the day are business casual.
Weather: April is mostly sunny with some overnight or short-lived afternoon thunderstorm. In April the ocean starts to take on some of its more summer-like traits. On those days, it is warm, calm and crystal clear with few waves in site.
Fort Lauderdale life is in full swing in April—the restaurants and shops are still bustling with people but you might find the parking lots a little less crowded since some of the seasonal residents are beginning to head back north. Average temperatures are a high of 85 and low of 68 at night.

6:30 pm – 9:30 pm: Opening Night Caribbean Island Reception and Dinner
Enjoy an exciting opening night of networking, cocktails and dinner in beautiful Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Friday, April 19
8:00 am—9:00 am: The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team

9:00 am — 10:15 am: The Impact of Obamacare on Your Company and Employees
Obamacare is a reality and is set to take effect January 1, 2014. With over 2,000 pages of law, there are many, many pieces of the law that business owners need to understand in order to comply. Failure to comply can cost you and your employees dearly. Tim Owen, who has been active at both the national and state level will provide members an inside view of the key parts of the law you need to act on now.
10:30 am – 11:30 am: Post Election Presidential Policy: Where Is It Headed
We are now 4 months removed from the Presidential election and many issues are in the mix under the Obama administration including taxes, healthcare, federal regulations, energy policy, NLRB labor issues and much more. Ned Monroe, NAM’s VP of External Affairs will give you an inside look at where we are headed and what needs to be done to keep the press on for pro-business policies.
11:30 am – Noon: MTI Spring Membership Meeting
Over the last few years, MTI has been more involved in a host of industry issues and projects. Get the inside scoop as President Jim Roberts from Eclipse Combustion and other committee chairs share the exciting developments on each of these projects.
6:30 pm—7:30 pm: Meet-Up Cocktail Reception
Night two is all about the freedom to see Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. You are invited to come and enjoy an hour of cocktails as you discuss with other members where you want to venture off to in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Saturday, April 20
8:00 am—9:15 am: The Future of 27 Industry Sectors… Where Should You Be?
Senior Economist, Cliff Waldman from the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation will provide members an energetic look at the worlds economies as it relates to the potential for future growth in manufacturing. He will outline the good and the bad of the 27 major industry sectors heat treaters serve.
9:15 am—10:15 am: Product Liability: The Things You Don’t Know Can Cost You Customers and Profits
Product liability is an issue more and more heat treaters are having to deal with. Some manufacturers are starting to require it on projects. Having the right coverage takes some knowledge of the product liability area. Matt Burns is a specialist in this area as it relates to heat treating companies. He will share the ins and outs heat treaters must know when quoting and researching product liability.
10:30 am—Noon: 9 Powerful Body Language Moves You Must Use to Immediately Get What You Want
Wouldn’t your life be a lot easier if you could quickly spot micro-expressions, body language, and words and phrases that suggest there’s something more to the story? Don’t you work hard and deserve to know how to motivate your sales team, HR department and association colleagues to always put their best foot forward and ultimately increase your bottom-line? Wouldn’t you get excited if you could spot those “the check is in the mail” clients before you give them your product or your time? Janine Driver from the Body Language Institute is a retired federal law enforcement officer. She is a body language and detecting deception contributor to NBC’s Today show, Anderson Cooper Live, Extra!, and the Dr. Oz Show. The Washington Post called her “a part of a thriving industry of consultants helping people to climb their career ladder.”
6:30 pm – 11:00 pm: Closing Night Reception, Dinner and Entertainment
After enjoying two full days of educational sessions and seeing Ft. Lauderdale, enjoy an exciting night of drinks and food sharing your favorite lessons learned and memories created during the 2013 Spring Meeting. The evening will be topped off by your favorite tunes where you can choose to bond with other members or hit the dance floor.
