This past month, the MTI Midwest and Canadian Chapter members convened in Gurnee, Illinois and Toronto, Canada for two great nights of networking and speaker.

The Midwest Chapter hosted over 50 people to hear one of the country’s leading experts on emotional intelligence in the workplace.  Dr. Richard Marks shared many keys and strategies on how to deal with difficult people in the workplace, how to motivate people who seem unengaged in work, and how to get the most from each employee.  One of the big take-a-ways was learning to understand the difference between problematic behavior and an unmet need.  Dr. Marks stated, “Knowing how to identify behavior as problematic or just an unmet need is so key to getting the most out of your employees.”

The Midwest Chapter also enjoyed a fun session on four key traits of successful leaders from Kenn Kington.  Kenn is a nationally known speaker and comedian.  His session kept members laughing, as well as coming away with a couple of keys on how to lead people in your company.

The Canadian Chapter enjoyed the humor and content of Kenn Kington, while also honoring long time Canadian Chapter member Harry Hall for his recent retirement from Aberfoyle Metal Treaters.  Harry has been a long time volunteer with MTI and has served in numerous capacities, including being elected President in 2002.

As with any MTI meeting, networking and sharing ideas with other owners and executives were the drawing card to both meetings.

MTI has a slate of summer meetings happening from June to September.  MTI encourages you to take the opportunity and attend one of these meetings.  You will gain a new perspective and refreshing look at your business by talking about industry issues and challenges.
